The driver of an 18-wheel log truck has been killed after crashing into Lake Frank Jackson in Opp.

The Opp Police Department said the accident happened at around 11:15AM yesterday on U.S. Highway 331 at the intersection of County Road 38.

Police say the 18-wheeler had gone through a guardrail and into the lake. When they arrived, they say the cab was submerged underwater.

The driver has been identified as 51-year-old Jerry Watford of Abbeville. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say it appears the log truck was traveling west on County Road 38 before hitting the guardrail and going into the lake.

Recovery efforts took several hours.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Opp Police Department.
