The federal government shutdown is nearing one month, threatening food assistance for scores of Californians and leaving many anxious over how a prolonged shutdown could impact their lives — including the monthly issuance of Supplemental Security Income and Social Security benefits.
At the start of October, the Social Security Administration said that during the shutdown, payments to all who currently receive Social Security benefits and SSI “will continue with no change in payment dates” and that people “will still receive your payments on time.”
SSI, which the Social Security Administration manages, provides monthly funds to qualifying people whose income and resources (such as vehicles or money in their bank accounts) are limited, according to the SSA .
