GILMER, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott announced that Barry Wallace will officially serve as Upshur County district attorney following Billy Byrd's retirement.
Byrd announced that his retirement would begin after Oct. 31 after working as the district attorney since 2007.
On Tuesday, Abbott officially named Wallace as Byrd's successor starting Nov. 1 for a term that will expire Dec. 31, 2026 or until his successor is elected.
Wallace, of Gladewater, is currently the first assistant for the Upshur County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas District and County Attorneys Association, and the Northeast Texas Bar Association. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy.
