MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — The National Hurricane Center warned that this morning was the last chance to protect your life as Hurricane Melissa makes landfall in southern Jamaica.
The Category 5 storm is packing winds over 185 miles per hour, with gusts up to 200, and authorities are urging residents to shelter in interior rooms without windows.
Rivers are already overflowing, roads are closing, and thousands of Jamaicans are seeking safety as the storm tears through the island. The NHC says flooding and wind damage are expected to be catastrophic.
