A Derbyshire MP has submitted a petition to make Ilkeston's Market Place safer to Parliament . The petition, which has been set up by the family of murder victim Samuel Wilson, aims to put anti-vehicle measures in place to enhance public safety.

In 2023, Samuel Wilson was murdered in a vehicle attack aged 26 . He was struck by a van along with two other men on the Market Place just after 2am on Saturday, December 16, and his killer, Zac Newman, was sentenced to life behind bars in 2024.

The petition, which was started by Samuel's mother Loraine Wilson with help of Adam Thompson MP, requested that the House of Commons urge the Government "to call on relevant authorities and key partners to strengthen pedestrianisation measures on Ilkeston market place, and that the petitioners rema
