Prunella Scales, the British actress renowned for her role as the sharp-tongued Sybil Fawlty in the classic sitcom “Fawlty Towers,” died peacefully at her London home. She was 93.

Her sons, Samuel and Joseph, announced through the U.K.’s PA Media news agency that Scales died on Monday. They revealed she had been watching episodes of “Fawlty Towers” the day before her death.

“We would like to thank all those who gave Pru such wonderful care at the end of her life: her last days were comfortable, contented and surrounded by love,” her sons said in a statement .

Scales had been diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2013, which led to her retirement from acting after a career spanning nearly seven decades, according to PEOPLE .
