Columbia City Council Ward 1 and Ward 5 seats are up for election in April, so the city clerk is accepting candidate petitions starting Oct. 28.
Petitions and instructions are available 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. weekdays from the clerk's office in Columbia City Hall at 701 E. Broadway. Petitions must be returned no later than 5 p.m. Jan. 13. Potential candidates must gather at least 50 signatures of qualified voters from the respective wards to be on the April ballot.
The Ward 1 seat currently is held by Valerie Carroll and the Ward 5 seat is held by Don Waterman. The election is April 7.
