SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A local Asian-owned donut and dessert shop is closing its doors in November after financial difficulties.

Nance Ying, a Thailand native and owner of Chubby Baker, started by serving her desserts through pick-up orders at her mother-in-law's house, she told Good Things Utah in 2022. She made the desserts to her own taste, and their popularity began to grow.

That small business bloomed into a real donut shop in Salt Lake City, which opened in October 2021. Two additional locations, one in Orem and one in Sandy, opened up soon after. Chubby Baker focused on specialty donuts and other unique dessert recipes.
