Nearly half of Ontario’s planned Homelessness and Addictions Recovery Treatment (HART) hubs, including those in northeastern Ontario, have not yet opened.
Prior to Ontario’s general election on Feb. 27, Health Minister Sylvia Jones said the province’s 27 HART hubs would be open by April 1.
The hubs would provide recovery and treatment services for people struggling with substance use and mental health issues, but would not provide any kind of supervised drug consumption services.
Ema Popovic, a spokesperson for Jones, told CBC News in an email that only 15 HART hubs have opened to date.
“Each HART hub that transitioned from a drug injection site opened their doors on April 1st, as planned,” Popovic said.
