Southern interim coach Fred McNair said that Ashton Strother will be the team's starting quarterback the rest of this season at Tuesday’s media availability.

“Yeah, he's been playing well for us,” McNair said. “And you know, with some of the things that we got to correct on him, it's correctable.”

Under former coach Terrence Graves, Southern decided on the starting quarterback each week based on how they performed in practice that week. After making back-to-back starts and three overall, Strother has done enough to be the team's signal-caller going forward.

Entering Southern’s 2 p.m. game at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, Strother has thrown for a team-high 626 passing yards, two interceptions and a touchdown on a 54.2% completion rate in six games.
