JASPER, Mississippi — The Jasper County Sheriff's Department says that three monkeys are on the loose after a truck crash on I-59 in Mississippi.
The crash happened Tuesday, Oct. 28, when a truck carrying rhesus monkeys from Tulane University overturned.
Deputies say the truck driver warned them the monkeys were dangerous and could pose a threat to humans.
"We took the appropriate actions after being given that information from the person transporting the monkeys," the Jasper County Sheriff's Department stated.
Tulane University later released a statement saying the rhesus monkeys “are not infectious.”
University officials were able to enter the truck after the crash and confirmed that three monkeys remain missing.
