MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — At the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church on North Fifth Street, volunteers are helping people fill the gaps between its monthly food distributions with bread and fresh produce.
Many of the families here also receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
"Every so often, I come here, and it helps. It goes a long way. I'm thankful they have this service, and it really stretches with the family," said Emily Bally of Marshalls Creek.
Food Pantry Coordinator Michael Gonzalez says since the announcement that SNAP benefits won't go out in November due to the government shutdown, 60 families have signed up for assistance with the church.
