SEATTLE, Washington — Amazon announced Tuesday it will eliminate approximately 14,000 corporate positions as part of a companywide effort to streamline operations, reduce layers of management and focus on strategic priorities.

The reductions are expected to affect several teams across the company.

According to Amazon, the restructuring is framed as a continuation of efforts to strengthen Amazon’s organizational culture, including previous initiatives to reduce bureaucracy, increase ownership and accelerate decision-making. While some areas will see job cuts, Amazon said it will continue to hire in strategic growth areas.
