YAKIMA VALLEY, Wash. – Four libraries in the Yakima Valley are at risk of shutting down amid funding difficulties.

The Yakima Valley Libraries Board of Trustees held a meeting Monday night to determine steps to keep the impacted branches—many of which are in smaller towns outside of the city of Yakima—funded.

“I think everybody deserves to have a library nearby,” Yakima Valley Libraries Executive Director Candelaria Mendoza said.

A new payment plan was proposed for the four contracted cities, which would reduce rates to 75% in 2026 before bumping up to 85% in 2027 and the full rate the following year.
