MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Federation of Educators still hopes a deal can be reached with the district before union members go on strike.
The union authorized a strike vote last week . Voting spanned three days, and 92% of union members who cast their ballots voted to strike.
The union is negotiating three contracts: teachers, educational support professionals (ESP) and adult educators.
Catina Taylor, the president of the ESP union chapter, says they don’t really want to strike.
“We want to be able to live in the city in which we work,” Taylor said. “We still have educational support professionals that are homeless in the City of Minneapolis. They’re working full-time jobs.”
