RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- As Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica, Triangle families with a personal connection to the island are grappling with the harsh reality of the destruction the category 5 storm brought.
It made landfall and brought in catastrophic winds, rain and flooding. Melanie Davis lives in the Triangle, but was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica.
"It's really hard to think about what may happen in Jamaica to those folks out there," said Melanie Davis. " If it's treacherous rain and stuff like that, there's a possibility of a landslide or mudslide."
Davis said the home her father built sits on higher ground. The home is in a community that floods during normal rainfall, but the concern is the flooding that Hurricane Melissa could bring.
