KINGSTON, St. Andrew Parish —
Back in 1988, Jeffery Steaart experienced Hurricane Gilbert from his Jamaican home. Shortly after that, he left for the United States. Now, with Hurricane Melissa traveling through, he can't help but think of that time.
"That one was really bad," Steaart said. "This one is worse."
Steaart lives in Omaha, where he runs his store Jasican Island Vibes off of 24th and Lake, but he still has people down there — mother, brother, sister — and his good friend, local restaurant owner Hubert Pearson.
"He got stuck. Things like that, even tourists can get stuck for weeks," Steaart said.
Pearson spoke with KETV over the phone Tuesday, despite his power being out and barely having cell service. Through the crackle, he said that he is ok and ready to get back to work a
