TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said a 15-year-old was arrested and charged after bringing a gun to school in his backpack.

Monday morning, administrators at Strawberry Crest High School heard the teen might have brought vape pens on campus, HCSO said.

When they searched his backpack, they found a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. HCSO said the student did not have ammunition, and the gun was not loaded.

The ninth-grader attempted to flee when confronted about the weapon and pushed two school administrators to the ground, injuring them in the process.

The sheriff's office noted that no threats were made to students or staff at the school.
