DOVER, Fla. ( WWSB ) - A ninth grader at Strawberry Crest High School in Hillsborough County was arrested after administrators say he brought a firearm to school.

School administrators approached the 15-year-old boy Oct. 27 after getting a tip that he may have been in possession of vape pens, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

During a search of his backpack, school staff says they found a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. The firearm was not loaded and no ammunition was found.

When confronted, the boy tried to run away and, in the process, pushed two school administrators to the ground, causing injury, the sheriff’s office said.

He was arrested and charged with:

Possession of a weapon on school grounds

Minor in possession of a firearm

Battery on a specified official or emplo
