GRAND FORKS — The Grand Forks Sector of U.S. Border Patrol is hosting a press event Tuesday, Nov. 4, to remind people of the risks that come with attempting to cross the U.S.-Canada border during the winter months.

The goal for the event is to reduce the likelihood of serious injuries and deaths along the border, according to a press release issued by the border patrol office.

At a similar event in 2023, border patrol agents spoke about the dangerous situations people find themselves in.

"During winter months, weather can be unpredictable, and temperatures drop well below freezing, creating dangerous conditions for those who are underprepared or misguided by smugglers,” said Chief Patrol Agent Scott Garrett, who will also be speaking at Tuesday's event.
