MOORHEAD — Payton Gravelle is a tough out for the Wadena-Deer Creek volleyball team.
The junior middle hitter showed why on Tuesday, recording a game-high 25 kills to lead the Wolverines to a 3-1 win over East Grand Forks in the Minnesota Section 8, Class 2A semifinals played at Moorhead High School.
"I think it was just changing up the offense," Gravelle said. "They weren't just predicting where I was going every time and that worked the best for us, just running different routes."
Set scores were 25-15, 25-21, 15-25, 25-20.
Tied at 20-20 in the fourth set, the Wolverines ended the match on a 5-0 scoring run that included two kills from Gravelle and a third from senior outside hitter Kennedy Ness, who finished the night with 17.
It was Gravelle who threw down the final kill for match
