*News release from Orange County Coroner’s Office

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office is responding to a recent press release issued by Claflin University in response to the recent death of one of their students.

According to Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, a call was placed to 911 concerning an individual who was playing basketball and collapsed in the gym on the campus of Claflin University. EMS arrived, performing life saving measures and transported the person to MUSC Health Orangeburg.

Savion Brown, 21, of Macallano Dr. Charlotte, NC and a Senior at Claflin University was pronounced dead at MUSC Health Orangeburg. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
