RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian security forces launched a massive daylong operation on drug gangs in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas , setting off fierce gun battles that left dozens dead and many wounded, in what officials called one of the largest and most violent police actions in recent years.
