NEWFANE, N.Y. — A dispute between the Town Newfane and a landowner has erupted at one of Western New York's most popular fishing spots.

18 Mile Creek near Fisherman's Town Park annually attracts anglers from throughout the Northeast who travel hundreds of miles during the fall salmon run.

The Town of Newfane cashes in by charging for parking, and for rides on a utility vehicle to and from the prime fishing hole down near the Burt Dam.

This service spares fishermen from a sometimes arduous walk while dragging large salmon back to their vehicles.

This year the owner of a section of land along the shore has posted it meaning for now, the town can no longer drive its vehicle through that portion of a trail that passes beneath a former railroad trestle and on toward the dam.
