BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - As the holiday season approaches, experts have warned of a new scam targeting local residents.
Law enforcement officials warned of a recent uptick in fraud attempts. These include scams involving gift cards and impersonation of law enforcement officials and even family members.
Scammers have begun posing as members of charitable organizations in hopes of gaining access to funds and sensitive information. "It's the spirit of the holidays, the giving season - we'll see a lot of charity scams where someone might impersonate a charity [and] reach out to try to make a donation," said Head of Communications for the Financial Technology Association, Miranda Margowsky.
