BISMARCK — The North Dakota Department of Transportation is a finalist in the America’s Transportation Awards competition, giving the state a chance to win $10,000 and national recognition.

There are 12 finalists in the competition. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials will choose the winner of the Grand Prize, while the public can vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Each winner will receive $10,000 to donate to a charity or transportation-related scholarship of their choice.

North Dakota is being recognized for its “Wrong Way Detection Project,” which focused on increasing safety in areas where wrong-way driving has been detected — including Mandan, just west of Jamestown and north of Fargo on Interstate 29.
