CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio — Two Northeast Ohio school districts are asking voters for help this November as they face rising costs and declining state funding.
Both Elyria and Parma City Schools have emergency operating levies on the Nov. 4 ballot to help keep teachers in classrooms and programs running.
According to the district, it’s been 15 years since Elyria City Schools last asked voters for new operating dollars.
Issue 17 is a 10-year, 4.9-mill emergency operating levy that would generate about $6.4 million annually for district operations. That includes funding for teachers, support staff, and programs for the district’s nearly 6,000 students.
The cost to homeowners would be $172 per year for every $100,000 of county appraised home value.
