LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Senate Democrats are holding out for Congress to extend health care subsidies, which expire at the end of the year.

That could result in higher out-of-pocket costs for millions of Americans, including thousands of Kentuckians.

Gov. Andy Beshear and Congressman Morgan McGarvey held a virtual press conference on Tuesday, sounding the alarm, saying that without Affordable Care Act tax credits, people in Kentucky will pay thousands more in annual premiums.

"And I stress it's their premiums. This is just the premium for having health insurance. Doesn't mention the co-pays. It doesn't mention the deductibles. It doesn't talk about the out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs, which, because of the trade policies of the administration, continue to rise," said McGarvey.
