DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Three of four at-large Duluth City Council candidates spoke with Northern News Now on Tuesday about their priorities as Duluth faces a budget deficit of more than $7 million.

The election is scheduled for next Tuesday, with four candidates competing for the two at-large council positions. Two district council seats are also on the ballot.

Current city council president Terese Tomanek, running for another term, said the council is facing a difficult task but believes current strategies are moving in the right direction.

“Our biggest job is the budget, and we will be having a full-day budget retreat on Friday, so we look at that budget, we analyze it, we talk to all departments, and then we make our decision on the max levy based on that,” Tomanek said.
