The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) was set to open its Metro-North service to the east side of the Bronx in 2027. But they just confirmed that full operations are now set to start in 2030 at the earliest. The MTA blames Amtrak for the three-year delay as the route uses the latter's Hell Gate Line.
Called the Penn Station Access Project , this NYC expansion was meant to connect Metro-North's New Haven Line to Penn Station, with four new stations in the East Bronx that will cut travel times from the area to Manhattan by 50 minutes. The MTA claims Amtrak "didn't show up" when work began, and they're not leaving out the possibility of suing.
