Police identified the man shot and killed Monday in Northeast Portland’s Argay Terrace neighborhood as 39-year-old Derrik Rice.
Officers responded to the 4500 block of Northeast 125th Place around 5:30 p.m. and found Rice with a gunshot wound, Portland police said in a news release. They provided first aid at the scene, but police said Rice died after paramedics took him to a hospital.
A medical examiner determined his cause of death was a homicide , police said. Police have not announced any arrests in the shooting and said the suspect or suspects fled the scene.
Rice is the 38th person killed in Portland this year. At this time last year, the city recorded 64 homicides.
