LEWISTON, Maine — Maine business owners are stepping in to help support community members who are struggling to feed their families as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are going on hold amid the ongoing government shutdown.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday that SNAP benefits will not be issued in November during the government shutdown.
Justin Juray is the owner of Just-in-Time Recreation in Lewiston. He said the business is prepared to help families who don't have the means to feed their kids.
They're providing two hot dogs and a fry or grilled cheese and fries to parents who come in and request a hot meal for their children.
