CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Ohio High School Athletic Association on Tuesday announced a partnership with a firm called Influential Athlete, which will work to educate and inform member schools about how Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) works.

The move comes as the OHSAA’s 819 member schools prepare for an emergency vote that could usher in a new era of endorsement opportunities for student-athletes.

NIL allows athletes to make money from appearances, licensing, social media, endorsements and branding.

The urgency of the emergency vote comes in the wake of last week’s lawsuit filed against the OHSAA by Ohio State football recruit Jamier Brown , of Huber Heights Wayne, and his mother. They contend that Brown should be allowed to make NIL money while still in high school, something OHSAA bylaws
