PORTSMOUTH – A slow start put the Portsmouth High School girls soccer team in a quick two-goal hole but the Clippers didn’t crack under the pressure in Tuesday's Division I first-round game against No. 10 Hanover.

Senior Carolyn Milks put the Clippers on the scoreboard with 10:14 left in first half, and added two more in the second half as No. 7 Portsmouth rallied for a 3-2 win at Tom Daubney Field.

“We didn’t want to fall behind by two, but to see them fall behind like that, and keep fighting makes me really proud," Portsmouth head coach Mickey Smith said. "I think it could help compel us to something better down the line. I think a lot of it was our leadership from our captains.”

Portsmouth (11-3-3) will visit No. 2 seed Pinkerton (13-0-3) on Friday in a Division I quarterfinal.
