A suspected “territorial dispute” over sand extraction in North Goa’s Pernem escalated into a shooting incident in which two labourers were shot at by an unidentified assailant on Tuesday, police said.
The injured labourers were identified as Lalbabu Goud (37) and Ramrishi Paswan (54), both of whom are from Bihar and have been living in Pernem.
According to police, the incident took place at around 2.30 am when the duo had gone to extract sand from the Terekhol river near Uguvem. The FIR said an unidentified gunman fired at Goud and Paswan with the intention to kill. Paswan was shot in the neck, while Goud suffered gunshot injuries to his right arm and near the stomach. Both are undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital.
