COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Cobb County Board of Commissioners appointed James D. Ferrell as the county's police chief Tuesday night.

Ferrell has been serving as the interim chief since May and has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement.

"He has risen through the ranks during his tenure with the Cobb County Police Department from a patrol officer to sergeant to lieutenant to captain to major," County Manager Jackie McMorris said.

The board voted 5-0. After the appointment, the crowd erupted with cheers. He was sworn-in with his wife by his side. She pinned his chief's badge on him for the very first time. Credit: WXIA
