ANAMOSA, Iowa (KCRG) - An Eastern Iowa veteran group says its efforts to help veterans are uncertain amid the current government shutdown.

The Teufelhund headquarters on Main Street in Anamosa has helped over 300 veterans and service members over the last decade. Travis Tuetken, the group’s president, said one of their Housing Assistance Programs has tripled year over year as more veterans and service members’ families need financial support to make home repairs and pay bills.

With the government shutdown, Tuetken worries those numbers will continue to grow.

“We can probably go through the year still and can probably help another 30 veterans, after that it would be pretty tough,” Tuetken said.
