BEAUMONT, Texas — A proposed $264 million bond on the ballot could bring long-awaited improvements to Beaumont, including $11 million for a new multipurpose center at Alice Keith Park, a project South Park residents have been pushing for more than a decade.
Nathan Hawkins, a lifelong South Park resident, has been leading efforts to make the center a reality. “As you see, they just kind of just lounging around,” Hawkins said, describing the lack of activities for kids in the neighborhood. “I got family community-based sports fitness center, family community-based education training services, financial literacy,” he added, describing his vision for the space.
