At the crossroads of robotics and restaurants, one Silicon Valley startup says it’s serving up the future.
It's a new kind of food truck hitting the road that might change the way we think about food delivery.
In a world where delivery robots are dropping off food, Kish Shin is flipping the script.
The South Korean entrepreneur is the CEO of Shin Starr Presents and co-creator of OLHSO, an autonomous Korean BBQ food truck that cooks your meal while it’s on its way to you.
Inside the truck, the magic happens through a system called Autowok. a modular, AI-powered robot that automates cooking, serving, and even cleaning.
Once a human preps the ingredients and stocks the truck, the robot takes over from there.
As the truck drives to your location, the system retrieves ingredients, drops them into a heated, rotating canister, like a high-tech wok, and times the cooking so your wagyu galbi finishes just minutes before the truck arrives.
The company isn’t stopping at food trucks. Shin Starr is preparing to open its first micro restaurant inside a California airport, a fully automated kitchen that serves travelers 24/7.
Shin Starr also envisions someday partnering with an autonomous vehicle company to make the food trucks driverless for a completely autonomous food cooking and delivery experience.
The robot food truck made its public debut at San Francisco's TechCrunch Disrupt conference, where taste buds, and maybe a few business investors, will decide if the future of robotic dining is truly on wheels.
