WASHINGTON D.C. – A coalition of Democratic-led states filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration today, challenging planned cuts to federal food assistance.
Governors and attorneys general from 25 states and Washington D.C. are behind the suit. They claim the administration's cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are illegal.
The White House responded, saying the Department of Agriculture lacks the authority to use its contingency fund to maintain the SNAP benefits.
The cuts are expected to take effect this weekend, impacting millions who rely on the program.
