BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has alleged that 511 illegal Bangladeshi Rohingyas were issued birth certificates in Amravati, Maharashtra, as part of what he calls a large-scale scam to grant Indian identity to illegal immigrants.

Somaiya said the Amravati Municipal Corporation had illegally issued a total of 1,709 birth certificates, many of which were later found to be fraudulent.

Following an inquiry, authorities reportedly revoked more than 1,500 certificates. The BJP leader claimed that an FIR had been registered and that efforts were underway to recover the cancelled documents.

“511 Bangladeshi Rohingyas illegals got birth certificates at Amravati. Amravati Municipal Corporation issued 1,709 certificates illegally. All 1,709 certificates cancelled.
