CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said it has seen a spike in drug overdose incidents across the community.
The agency issued an “overdose spike alert” after nine overdoses, including one deadly case, were recorded on Oct. 27.
The overdoses occurred in various areas, with five incidents, including the fatality, reported in the Ashley River Rd. area of West Ashley, three in North Charleston, and one in Mount Pleasant. The substances involved were crack and heroin.
Actively monitoring overdose incidents, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office Community Wellness Unit uses the HIDTA Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (OD MAP).
