Members of the Seattle City Council have crafted more than $85 million in proposed additions to the city’s budget.
That’s far more than what’s likely to be in the final bill passed next month. In reality, members only have about $14 million in extra funds to move around. Any additional increases will need to come with cuts to what Mayor Bruce Harrell proposed last month.
The full airing of every member’s priorities is a new step in the city’s budget process. Previously, the public would only see a more finished result.
“This step is added and designed to daylight council member proposals, increase transparency and collaboration,” said Councilmember Dan Strauss, budget chair.
