SALEM ‒ The Columbiana County Sheriff's Office and the Columbiana County Humane Society are investigating after four horse skeletons were found in a barn on state Route 45 in Salem Township.
A report from the sheriff's office says a deputy was called to Pure Gold Horse Stables and Equestrian Center around 5:00 p.m. Oct. 26 by a woman from the Alliance area.
"The four horses were believed to have been locked in the barn and starved to death," the report said. "It was stated that seven other horses were on the property and in poor health."
A deputy assisted a humane society agent at the property on Oct. 27.
The report was to have been sent to the Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office and the local humane society.
