A powerful storm system will bring significant rainfall and potentially damaging winds to the Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

Rainfall totals of 1 1/2 to 3 inches are anticipated, with wind gusts potentially reaching 30 mph or higher Thursday and 40 mph Friday.

The National Weather Service forecasts periods of moderate to heavy rain developing after midnight Wednesday and continuing through Thursday night.

Rainfall will be widespread, with most areas expecting 1 to 2 inches of precipitation and some localized spots potentially receiving up to 3 inches. An isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, which could further intensify wind conditions.
