A northern Minnesota man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while attempting to unload a firearm.
The incident happened around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday near Hales and Birchmont Beach roads in Sugar Bush Township, and resulted in an injury to a 42-year-old man.
According to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, the man had pulled over to the side of the road and was exiting the vehicle in order to unload the gun. But as he did so, the gun went off accidentally, striking him in the leg.
The driver called 911 as he headed towards Cass Lake Indian Health Service, and was intercepted by emergency responders on Mission Road Southeast by first responders who began rendering medical care.
The man was then transported to Sanford Health Bemidji. No details have been provided
