NEW YORK (PIX11) – SNAP benefits aren’t expected to be handed out in November due to the government shutdown, New York officials have warned.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and a coalition of other states filed a lawsuit against the USDA on Tuesday, arguing that it’s illegal to suspend SNAP benefits.

Gov. Kathy Hochul also announced that $30 million in emergency funds will be used to help SNAP recipients across the state.

The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance plans to update households that receive SNAP on the status of the benefits on Nov. 1, according to its website. Residents should get a text message, but can also check: • ODTA website • NYC ACCESS HRA • myBenefits alerts • ebtEDGE app
