Workers at housing charity Shelter are being balloted for industrial action in a dispute over pay and working conditions. The Unite union says around 550 workers, members of Unite, have been offered a below-inflation 1.5 per cent pay rise.
Shelter's management says that, while industrial action is not the outcome they want, they "fully respect people’s right to strike". Shelter is a leading housing and homelessness charity, which was set up in 1966.
According to Unite, the latest financial report from the charity - which the union says has a "core aim of reducing poverty" - released earlier this year showed its income totalled £81.33m in 2023/24. This is, Unite stated, £7.67m, or 10 per c
