NEW ORLEANS —
The New Orleans City Council held a special meeting Wednesday where they called for a full investigation by the legislative auditor into the city's finances.
This comes ahead of a meeting with state leaders at 4:30 p.m., where it will be decided if a fiscal administrator will be assigned to New Orleans. Advertisement
The council voted Wednesday morning to block all unnecessary spending in hopes of addressing its tight budget amid concern that payroll won't be met through the end of the year.
The full review by the legislative auditor would look more deeply into the reasons why the city is currently at a $166 million deficit.
The city council is also set to meet with the State Bond Commission on Thursday, where they have requested a loan of $125 million to meet payroll.
