OTTAWA — Ronald Reagan’s legacy was one built on free trade.
That was the thrust of Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s letter to the editor published in Wednesday’s Wall Street Journal, explaining why the province spent $75 million on a television ad campaign decrying U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada.
“Our government ran an ad featuring the words of President Reagan because we can benefit from being reminded of his wisdom,” Ford wrote in the letter, published online and in the paper’s print edition.

“As the Gipper said, ‘protectionism’ is ‘destructionism’ and the ‘way to prosperity for all nations is rejecting protectionist legislation and promoting fair and free competition.”
